Urinary Problems Sorted – The EDTreatmentIndia Hospital’s Urology Centre provides a whole range of comprehensive and efficient services for the management of urological problems.
Urology department has following facilities:
URINARY STONES
Comprehensive care for the urinary stone diseases
Stone disease is a very common problem all over the world. Not all persons with urinary stones will have symptoms. The symptoms, if present, include:
- Colicky pain in the flanks, lower abdomen or radiating to the groin
- Blood in the urine
- Recurrent urinary tract infections
Mostly urinary stones whether symptomatic or asymptomatic require treatment. The centre is equipped with the complete range of stone treatment modalities.
Lithotripsy (ESWL):
A method of treating kidney and ureteric stones without surgery, using the latest lithotripsy machine. By this technique kidney stone is fragmented into very small particles without surgery and these stone particles are passed in the urine gradually in the next few days. Patients does not need any hospital stay and can go home same day.
Percutaneous renal surgery (PCNL):
Here 1 cm hole is made in kidney to remove stones after breaking it into smaller pieces. There is a minimal pain and discomfort and patients can go home in 48 hours.
Uretero-Renoscopy (URS):
This involves surgery where a small scope is passed through the urethra and bladder into the ureters and kidneys. The urinary stone is then broken up and removed.
PROSTATE DISEASE
BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia)
The prostate is a small gland found only in men and is located below the bladder and surrounding the urethra. For men above the age of 50, hormonal changes may cause the prostate to enlarge. The enlarged prostate presses on the urethra and causes problems with urine flow as well as discomfort. The condition, if untreated, may cause the bladder to thicken and stretch out of shape.
Symptoms of benign prostate hyperplasia (enlargement) include:
- Not being able to empty the bladder
- Frequent urination (especially at night)
- Weak or interrupted urine flow
- Urgent need to urinate
- Difficulty in starting urination and having to strain to urinate
Non-surgical and surgical treatment options for benign prostatic hyperplasia are individually tailored for the patients.
PROSTATE CANCER
The cells that make up the outermost part of the prostate gland can become cancerous and give rise to prostate cancer. This is a slow growing cancer that can spread to other organs, particularly the skeleton. Patients who are diagnosed early have a very high survival rate.
Symptoms and Detection
Early stage prostate cancer is usually without symptoms and may be detected during a routine examination of the anus and rectum. The symptoms include:-
- Weak or interrupted urine flow
- Frequent urination (especially at night)
- Difficulty in urination
- Pain or burning sensation during urination
- Blood in the urine or semen
- Persistent pain in the back, hips or pelvis
- Premature ejaculation Various treatment options according to stage of cancer prostate are available at EDTreatmentIndia Hospital.
URO-ONCOLOGY
In addition to prostate cancer, the centre also provides screening, staging and treatment for other urologic malignancies such as renal, ureteric, bladder, testicular and penile malignancies.
MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY
Most of the urological surgery can be performed by keyhole surgery. Most of kidney surgery whether it is for benign disease or for cancer can be safely performed laparoscopically. Similarly many other urological cancer surgeries like prostate cancer or ureteric cancer can also be done without cutting the abdomen. EDTreatmentIndia hospital offers all kinds of laparoscopic surgery for urological disease. Major advantage is less pain, small scar or no scar, early discharge and early return to work
FEMALE UROLOGY AND INCONTINENCE
Urinary incontinence (urinary leak) and other urinary problems like urgency (going to the toilet frequently) and stress incontinence (leaking of urine with cough and laughing or straining) can be investigated and treated with minimally invasive methods. The centre is equipped with state-of-the-art urodynamic testing facilities to assess incontinence problems in women.
INFERTILITY AND ANDROLOGY
EDTreatmentIndia Hospital offers a complete range of facilities for investigation of male infertility. Treatment may involve microsurgical techniques to correct congenital defects and to reverse prior vasectomies. Female infertility investigation by gynaecologists with special training in infertility is also provided.
ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION
Impotence is the inability to achieve and/or maintain an erection of the penis for satisfactory sexual intercourse and is correctly referred to as erectile dysfunction (ED). Erectile dysfunction pattern includes:-
- The occasional inability to achieve an erection
- The inability to maintain an erection during sexual intercourse
- The complete inability to achieve an erection
Erectile dysfunction is not just a “part of aging” that you have to accept. It’s a real medical condition and in most cases, it won’t improve without treatment.
URINARY TRACT INFECTION
We provide a complete urological evaluation for male and female patients with complicated or recurrent urinary tract infections. Specific treatment is then tailored.
RECONSTRUCTIVE UROLOGY
Many reconstructive urological surgeries like Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty for congenital PUJ obstruction, urethral stricture surgery, hypospedias surgery and other congenital disorder are reconstructed routinely.
TRANSPLANTATION AND DIALYSIS ACCESS
Kidney transplant surgery is a procedure of curing the patient with end-stage of renal disease. Kidney transplant can be performed replacing the diseased kidney donated from the deceased donor as well as living donor depending on the source.
Presently our urologists are working closely with the nephrologists to provide a renal transplantation service in near future. In addition, we also provide a dialysis access service.
